Classical Horror Halloween Contest

Bring out your dead side with the Stock & Resources Halloween contest event! This is a two part contest that is geared towards both stock providers and artists! It provides a unique opportunity to create some fantastic portrait stock, especially if you've never tried it before. The stock portion of the contest ends on October 30th. Beginning on October 31st, it will be time for the artists to work their witchy magic and create some fantastic artworks from the stock portion of the contest. For more information, check this out:

DeviantART Mentions and the Stock Provider

It's been almost a month since the new mentions system has rolled out. It has become a fantastic way to bring artists together and encourage discussion. Aside from being a fun way to draw your friends into a conversation, the mentions system has also had a bonus side effect of helping stock providers know where their stock has been used. This is great for stockers because it means that we might not have to require notification anymore. It's great for stock users because it means they might not have to remember to notify stockers anymore. HOWEVER! Do NOT assume that if you mention someone, you can forget about notification. ONLY forgo notification if the stocker you used stock from specifically says in their Terms of Use that a mention is a good enough notification of use.

The reasons for this, right now as the feature works, are:
1. Some people only write the username and do not use the :dev or :icon codes. (Naughty, tsk tsk)
2. Links to deviations do not work as mentions, only thumbnails work.

Now of course these things may change, as the feature is still new. But just assume, for your sake and the sanity of all stock providers, that you still need to notify. Be sure to read each stocker's rules carefully as always!

Mentions are a new, highly requested feature that makes engaging friends and artists in conversation more dynamic than ever before.
What is a Mention?
A Mention is when a deviant’s username, icon, or artwork is included in a comment or Journal. Mentions create links to the deviants or artwork you include, allowing you to highlight artists and engage deviants with ease.
Links to pages on deviantART can quickly be distinguished by their bold, dark-blue color, while external links are darker and have an arrow indicating you are leaving deviantART.
Deviants you mention are notified in the new Mentions section of the Message Center, making engaging and involving others in conversation a simple, hassle-free experience.

Making Your Terms of Use Crystal Clear

As providers it is imperative that we make our terms of use crystal clear so that the artists and stock users know exactly what they need to do when using our stock. This article by PirateLotus-Stock is a fantastic guide to explaining terms of use and how to make sure they are clear and concise.

It has recently come to my attention by talking to another CV that some people are having a problem with a particular stock issue. That issue is WIPs. I have no idea who the stock provider was or the stock user (I saw a journal but have long forgotten), and I don't know how the issue was settled, so if it was you, I'm not talking directly to or about you specifically in this journal. This is a good issue for all of us to pay some attention to, and brings up other issues as well.
First, a word to the stockers:
Most of us have in our stock terms something along the lines of, "Show me your finished work."
The problem with this is that if you want to see WIPs that are posted on deviantART, the stock user is probably not understanding that. The word "finished" in your terms means exactly that to them: finished work. The work in progress is not a finished work, and therefor, according to your term
